ALNMOUTH
"The Boat Club"

Alnmouth history has seen many ships in the port before the sea broke through. Today, the estuary hosts a small number of moored sailing boats and fishing boats. In the summer we get a number of visiting boats but the 'bar' is not the easiest to come across and the river changes its course along the beach from time to time. There are some areas where it is safe to dry out at low tide. Not a place for fixed keel sailing boats!

There was a tradition of wooden boat and ship building in the village and the last 'Boat builders' were to be found at "THE ALN BOATYARD". This was located on Riverside Road and was adjacent to the Bath House and opposite to the Ferryman's Hut.

Clinker built sailing boats were made at 'The Aln Boatyard'. The area of the old boatyard is now occupied by private houses and one which is available for self catering.

The village boat club looks after local moorings. There is a committee and information will be posted on the site soon.

There is a loading ramp onto the beach. This is situated on Riverside Road near the Playground. The key for the barrier is available from a committee member. A small fee may be requested. The beach is firm in the immediate area of the ramp and can take four wheel drives and normal cars. Please note that vehicles must stay in the confines of the loading ramp and must not drive on the beaches.

If you need to find out who is who in the club - there is a notice board on the 'Ferryman's Hut' - a small dark wooden hut on the riverside edge of Riverside Road.
